RETS2
From RETS Community Wiki
[edit] Intro
RETS 2.0 emerges from the collective experiences and feedback of the RETS community and the real estate organizations they serve.
Generally, RETS 2 is aimed at increasing the adoption and usefulness of RETS by meeting the following needs:
- reduce the steepness of the learning curve for RETS
- improve the degree of interoperability between RETS systems
- reduce the level of effort needed to implement a RETS Server or a RETS Client
- allow RETS to take advantage of overall web standards used by both the Microsoft and Java communities
- make it easier to use “off-the-shelf” common developer tools and utilities to build RETS servers and Clients
- make it easier for RETS systems to implement the Security guidelines recommended by NAR’s to adequately protect broker, agent and consumer data
- make RETS more useful to those using listings data, especially brokers and transaction system vendors
In short, RETS 2.x is meant to build on the best of RETS 1.x while both increasing its ease of use and expanding its utility.
By doing so RETS 2.x will continuing to drive out the overhead of incompatible systems and software amongst trading partners by enabling more data about more aspects of the real estate transaction to be more easily coordinated across service providers and end users
